thanks for the quick reply.
If I were to add a new data connection (connection being to receive or query from a sharepoint list) to a form and republish the form, would that change any values in forms filled out using earlier templates?

You can add items to your SharePoint list and they will show as new options in your form dropdown. No template changes needed.
Now, if you delete an item from your list, and it was previously selected, when you open that XML, you'll see the original value in the field, but if you try to select another value, that value will no longer be ...

In case of a form which already has a dropdown box, could I add another "option" for the dropdown box and republish the template. Will this maintain the earlier selections made on other forms.
PS: The dropdown collects these options from a sharepoint list

I think you'll need to use eval. So, for example, try this formula in field13 (by the way, before your form goes into production, you'll want to get your data source renamed and tidied up):
sum(xdMath:Eval(xdXDocument:GetDOM("Job Data List")/dfs:myFields/dfs:dataFields/dfs:Job_Data_List[@Job_Num = ...

Yes, field 12 adds all the "@Units" fields and totals them. However, I can't just do:
total_in_footer = sum(@Size[@Job_Num = Job] * @List[@Job_Num = Job]) because it gives an error.
Currently, I am using your expression box to calculate the Cost in each row (@Units * @List) and now I need the footer to include the ...

If you need to set a single field in your main data source to the total of your ShP list data, you can do that with a formula -- look into the sum function (you may need eval, depending on what you are trying to do). Be careful with defaults that get updated when the data changes -- if the ShP list data changes and you re-open the form, you have ...

Yes, I originally thought this wouldn't matter because he never asked me before to total up all the fields -- this was an addition.
So right now, the expression box is correctly adding up the data from the two sharepoint fields, but now he wants a total of all those totals to show up in the footer of the repeating table (similar ...

Hi, Nancy:
Glad you like qRules -- we think it is cool, too!
You can use two (or three, or more) mappings in the same form. The only thing your commands above are missing are that you'll have to have two separate submit data connections to SharePoint -- when we set up the data connection, we select the mapping file that has the batch that we ...

You are correct -- they don't store. They merely reflect the state of your secondary data source. This is why I expressed concern over the schema for you form.
What is the actual requirement you are working toward?

just to let everyone know. I had both Microsoft infopath 2010 as well as 2007 installed on my computer. I uninstalled infopath 2010 and then I stopped having this issue.
I had both 2007 as well as 2010 for a while on my computer and everything still seemed to work fine. So I must have done something wrong related to Infopath 2010 that was ...
