Hi Taffman,
This is a very common question and here is an excellent how-to written by Greg Collins that should explain exactly how you can do exactly what need:

Hi Jerry,
You can use a secondary data source (your Access DB located on a different shared server) to do this.
Here is a really good how-to that Matt Faus wrote that I think should point you in the right direction:

Good luck!

I'm sorry, I thought I had seen within the conditional formatting that you could format the number that way. I know there is an easy way to do this, I'll post back if I can find it.

Hi Taffman,
Have you tried using conditional formatting rules to do this?

You should be able to do what you want with conditional formatting as you would just test for the value of the selection they have made in the drop down list and then format accordingly.

What about putting a default value in the field that you can than use in a rule to exclude validation if the default value is not changed?.

nickdavid,
One other thing, have you looked into doing this with the use of ''user roles'' in the InfoPath forms? I believe that you can specify read only with user roles pretty easily, this might be a much easier solution that digital signatures.

Here's a link I found with some information on the digital signautres, sounds like a similar question to yours:

Do you already utilize digital signatures? I think that digital signatures would be the surest way of making sure that other users can't change the information.
However, if you don't utilize them already, digital signatures might be time consuming to implement.
You could consider different views on the form: The LM tick box could live on a ...

There is a builtin wizard that allows you to do this with a submit button and not requring rules or code.
Here is how to do with SQL Server:

and here is another link that should help you figure it ...
