After additional research, I found the process by which Microsoft expects IP developers to set the format for the date and time fields within a date/time picker (DTP) control. It makes no sense whatsoever, but I now know logic behind Microsoft's madness :-)

Thanks for the response Ted, appreciate the help. Using your form it seems I was applying the rules against the read-only text box and not on the individual drop-boxes. I didn't think this backwards compatability would be a problem but my logic was wrong. Works well now! Now, for the forms that have already been ...

[quote user="Ted Fitch"]Hi,
Is this a web form or a client form?
Also you mentioned that the user as InfoPath 2007 installed - does the user also have either InfoPaty 2003 or InfoPath 2010 installed? There are some known issues out there with multiple versions of InfoPath installed and this sort of message makes me think it could ...

I have a form containing SSNs. I would like to encrypt data entry into the field, but also have it unlocked via password (or whatever) when it needs to be viewed by an auditor. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

just as a followup... i've tried the deletenil approach to no avail.
found this approach: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/eu/sharepointinfopath/thread/53803456-c1f0-4a7e-91d0-c44df2965877 which suggests to change the base data type to a string. seems to work for what i'm trying to accomplish.

Hi Rachel,
It sounds to me like something wrong with the rules you are using. In the attached sample form I just created it works (I think this is what you are looking for, right?)
I would take a look at each dropdown, perhaps there is something conflicting with the rules you have?

Aaah, I see now. I originally had set the drop-down properties to use the "Title" for both the Value and the Display Name. I corrected it so now the Value is the ID and the Display Name is the title.
Works like a charm! THANK YOU!!!
