Hi dboysmith, I don't think it's possible to by pass the load of the data connection.
But you can Add an action to set a default field value and assign it the function username(), after that you modify your data connection to use this field as parameters.

If the secondary data source is working, it's mean that your user permission is OK.

Hi tlewis, you have to publish your form with domain permission or full trust. To do that, go to Tool, form options, security and trust, and change the security level.

I don't think your web reference is bad, perhaps you don't have correct permission on the list.
If you create a infopath datasource on this list is it working ?
Can you test another account who is Admin of the site you can replace networkcache by:
lists_ws.Credentials = new System.Net.NetworkCredential(_user, _password, _domain);

Hi, the formatting doesn't work because your date format it's wrong. Can you try this formula:
concat(today(); "T00:00:00")
or
now()

I don't think it's possible via form server. if you want to use your client context, you can use infopath.
