In InfoPath/Sharepoint 2010 you can set the queryField to filter the data on the server. That's the best option - faster performance.
If you bring in all the items into the data connection (without a filter), then you will need to filter in the dropdown itself, when configuring the dropdown properties, in the Entries box.

How are you calculating the comparison date? Are you using addDays()?

I don't believe filters allow excluding, only including.
So if you have 10 list items with Column1=A and 3 list items with Column2=B, you could filter to return only the items where Column1=A (thus excluding the 3 items with Column2=B).
However, you cannot filter (a default data connection) with a filter like Column2 is not equal to B.

Yes, it is possible. For the purposes of the tutorial or the form logic, a repeating section is no different than a repeating table. The only difference between those two is in the canvas.
It's always best practice to place your repeating tables/sections within a section control.

I'm not sure if the UserProfileService will return the user's department. This will vary from server to server, depending on configuration/settings.
Regardless, once you have a data connection to receive user data, you can take a look at the data being returned by the secondary data source and use it as needed in your form. Since the data ...

currentStep is just a node in your InfoPath's form schema. It won't ever be displayed on the canvas. You will use it to control conditional formatting in the form, and set the value of currentStep via rules.
So for example, when a user clicks button1, set a field's value for currentStep=1.
When a user clicks button2, set a ...

Hi,
You might need to check the Security settings on the form. It might be a good idea to change that setting from Restricted to Domain level.
We have a tutorial on this scenario, available in the link below. Hope it helps.
