I see.  The code in the first post is actually 2003 OM code, which is quite different from 2007 and 2010.  On the other hand, IP 2010 still allows using 2003 code, so I'm not entirely sure why OP was having an issue. And I now understand what you meant in that line I quoted.  Code that works in 2010 should work in 2007 99% ...

Please try using All occurrences of <field> are not equal to "Global Functions".  The All occurrences option is available in a dropdown on the Select Field dialog.

Instead of selecting just one instance of the attachment with SelectSingleNode(), you need to select all of them using Select() and then iterate through them.  Alternatively, you could use the SaveToSharePoint command in qRules, that makes saving out attachments easy as pie.

There's no reason to use code for this.  You'll need to create a separate (non-displayed) field to hold the value for whether the control is enabled or not.  You can call it [ControlFieldsName]Enabled.  Add an action rule to the button to set that field to false, and then add conditional formatting to the control to disable ...
