After investigation, it appears that infopath will split any hide rule on a section that contains a combination of "and" and "or" conditions.

I think I broke it again :(
I've introduced some QRules which rendered my custom code not necessary, so I removed the code and re-injected QRules.

I have added a TexBox control and set its Properties value to 'UserName' using Function button.
When I 'Preview' the form; it does display username in it but when I launch application; the TexBox is blank.
How do I get it to display the UserName in the TexBox control?
