Perfect! Glad you have it working. So - your instincts were right here, you were setting a query field and running a query. The issues were that were conditions that may have been preventing the query from running & the Main Data Source is going to automatically populate those data fields. :)

I'd start with repairing InfoPath, or uninstalling / reinstalling InfoPath. I have .NET 4.5, do not have .NET 4.0 and can open InfoPath 2013 forms w/out issue, so it sounds like you have something else going on w/ your InfoPath install.

Your screenshots aren't showing - can you attach them in replies under the Options tab?

Ok - I think maybe there are a few things going on here. To start with, I'd try just modifying the rules on your Query SRs ID dropdown - just disable your current rules, and simply add a rule to Query the main data source. That should automatically populate your data fields with that record. If you only want people to be able to select ...

So - the site requires sign in. Any chance you can just attach the XSN to a reply instead?

You can mix them! So yes, you can have some "new" and some "updated", just have to set the attribute to the correct value when you create the new node.

You need to start with a NodeIterator for your source data - that's repeating right? What's your repeating group?
Then use a foreach to go through each node, using relative XPath to the fields - so if your NodeIterator is for my:myFields/my:group1/my:group2, to get data from each node in your foreach, you use my:field1, ...

Unfortunately, this is just a feature that InfoPath doesn't support. Do you submit your form to a SharePoint library? If so, you may want to consider sending a link to the form (so users open the original and have access to the attachment).

You have to put the same rule on all the involved fields. So - same rule on field1, field3 and field4. Make sense?
