I have a couple of questions re your soluton.
1. If I use an expression box, will the data in the box be saved when the form is submitted? The form goes through any number of approvers before the data is written out to our accounting system. I thought I remembered that expression boxes didn't save the ...

No it is not :-( (I am sad). It still keeps the data. Here is a screen shot of your form in use on my system.

That explains it! IP keeps that form as a resource file with the other template files, so you did the right thing to update it. :-)

Actually I did have the mapping file updated with the ID field....however....I did not realize that the mapping data connection added the file into the form template. I thought it was browsing for the mapping file every time I submitted..but now in hindsight that wouldn't make much sense. Anyway, I re-linked the mapping data ...

In the sample attached to my post, if I preview it and type in the work log field and tab out, the text gets added to the log field and the work log field is cleared - is the sample form not working that way for you?

I attached of the screen shot WorkLog1 which is what I am actualyl trying to accomplish. If I use the sample you gave me (about the same I have) it does nto clear the filed..... :-(

I see you have field called listID - but I don't see the field in the mapping file as the ID? Or you could include it in the command with /id=my:listID. You can indicate your ID field with the mapping tool (see screenshot).

Thank you very much taking the time to troubleshoot this with me. My co-worker recommended another solution through the IP Design mode that works perfectly. Due to our deadline I'll have to try and figure this out later.
