For this kind of thing I immediately turn to Excel. 9 times out of 10 if you can do it in Excel you can do it in InfoPath/SharePoint.
You may also want to look at SharePoint and calculated columns.

I am trying to add QueryDB connection to my form and having trouble. In data connection wizard, my parameter is "ns3:queryXml" -- what does that mean? When I did the tutorial Copy sql values to infopath repeating section fields using querydb, this parameter was "tns:queryxml"
Does that matter?

Hi Hillary,
I'm skiddish about adding a section to my template to be used as an Email view. Wouldn't this cause problems in the schema for forms published using an older template?

You probably could have done this with rules - one option is matches pattern / doesn't match patter and you can a regex to see if the field matches a certain pattern as a condition for rules.
