I have a validation on a text field in (Infopath 2007) for UTF-8 encoding. I am doing it from the frontEnd using this expression [^\u0000-\u007F].

I don't know the exact solution to your problem, but here are some thoughts.
Each XML form needs to be opened in order for the data query and rules to execute (and bring in the latest data from the secondary data source), then the form is resubmitted to overwrite the XML file in the form library.

If the data is flat you could use a SharePoint list. I would imagine that a form library with 20 columns and 2000 xml files is probably not going to perform very well.
Where is the source data (the 2000 records)? Once the data is imported into SharePoint, how will it be used?

Hi cpluce,
Following this method won't the actual file name remain the same (e.g. as "user - timeofsubmit"). What I am trying to achieve is have the file name to be the same as the sharepoint ID.
