I'm also seeing the same problem, but it only affects 1 form out of about 50 we have on our SharePoint server.
WinDbg reveals the crash to be caused by a good old 'null pointer' exception within IPEDITOR.DLL
As a test, I made a copy of the form library, changed the form ID and removed all custom code and data connections ...

nevermind my last comment.... proof is in the puding. IE9 works IE8 does not.
Love the SP error. very helpful :-0

InfoPath leverages IE for a number of things, so yes. In fact, where I recall seeing this was in a client form - do you know if the other users trying the form are using IE 8?

You are using absolute XPaths instead of relative. Try this, for example:
string field1 = rows.Current.SelectSingleNode("my:field2", NamespaceManager).Value;
-
Unfortunately that hasn't worked, I get the following error message:
"my:myFields/my:SelectedPartnerAgencies" does not point to a valid location path of a field or group.
I've never directly edited XPath before so apologies if its something really obvious that i'm missing here.
In response to previous post my rule is on ...

So, the error indicates that the issue may be with rich text - is this something you can work around? Or can you take a look at the entries in that list and get an idea for which one may be causing the issue (i.e. - you weren't having a problem last week, you are this week - what list items have been added or modified between now and then?)

why would i want to open the form and update this then save it etc? that is not workable.
Just like with qRules i would like to update a sharepoint list, but instead of using a list i would like to update a form library.
At the moment we have lots of forms in a form library. The forms need assigning to a user.
So i want to create a form ...

As far as updating a value in a SharePoint form library, without code, the answer is to open the XML, update the value, resubmit the form.
But as I said, I'm not clear on what you want to do. Perhaps you'll want to open a new thread and add information about your scenario and what it is you want to accomplish.

Is your formula not working?

original post "i want to update a value in a form library".
I would like to update a column value in a form library, i can't use qRules so i wondered if there was a blog out there showing how to do this manually without code.
