I have found several posts about auto populating fields based on other fields. But none address populating a "person or Group" field.
I need to auto populate a responsible individual for action based on the category selected on the form. But when i try to set up the rule it won't allow me to set the person or group field ...

Yes - that sounds like a good approach. Be sure you name your list columns exactly the same thing as your library uses - that is, if you have spaces in between words in the promoted properties in your library, be sure you have spaces in the columns in your dummy list. SharePoint generates fun internal names like ...

thanks once again!
What do you think the best way is i should try and do this? Should i create a SP list that dummys the Form Library i am trying to update, for example.
1. Create a List with, Filename, AssignedTo fields
2. Create the form that lists all the forms and people to choose who to assign the form to

So, your issue is here:
XPathNavigator queryField = MainDataSource.CreateNavigator().SelectSingleNode("/dfs:myFields/dfs:queryFields/q:Provider_Info/@Provider_Name", NamespaceManager);
This is because your XPath is not a field in the main data source, so queryField is null. You need something like the below example, ...

So, just to be painfully clear here - in qRules, one of the things we can map is the actual item ID (the SharePoint List Item ID - an auto incrementing integer that every single list or library item has, whether displayed in the view or not). For updating list items, qRules uses this ID to know what to update. The mapping for the field can look ...

Hi Hilary, I successfully built a form that utilizes your code to do wildcard searches. In that form the data connection is the "Main" Data connection. However when I decided to create a new form wherein the data I want to wildcard query is not the "main" but rather the "Secondary" data connection I get the ...

thanks for the information Hillary. The form name uses a timestamp so this is unique, i can use this as the ID for updating. Will take a look at the mappin.xml and see how far i get. Thanks.

I just verified that I can use qRules SubmitToSharePoint list to update a column for an existing item in a form library - as long as the promoted property is set to allow editing from the library.
As mentioned above - the challenging thing is just that you'll need to manually modify your mapping file - and then have logic in your form to set ...
