Hilary, thank you for the very quick response. Can you suggest an alternate approach to doing what I need the form to do? I need to be able to maintain the integrity of the database connection while having the ability to write new records without having the user manually add each record.
Thank you - Chad

I went and took a look at the form where I'd implemented this - I used a stored procedure (I was deleting from 3 tables), and set my data connection to execute it. Looking at my DB - there was nothing special about it either, though in the stored proc I do set implicit_transactions off.

Additionally, if I change my sql statement from a DELETE FROM, to a select * from, the query works (e.g. the where clause is valid, it can see the DB just fine, etc.). It seems like Infopath does not like deleting using this DataSource. Is there something special I have to do to the datasource to have it allow deletes?

Trace shows me that the commands are running on the server, but nothing is changing. I copy the SQL out of the BatchStarting and run it in SSMS and the row will delete. The results of my sql in the trace look like:
SQL:BatchStarting: set implicit_transactions on SET NO_BROWSETABLE ON (then a batch ...

The concept is the same, regardless of where the secondary data comes from. No SharePoint is required for this scenario.

Thanks Ernesto.
Need all the moral support I can get on this one and it is a relief to know that there are kind people out there willing to shove me in the right direction :)
I shouldn't have any problem with the code on the web service as I have written a few of them that connect to sql databases, just not sure about deploying etc.
I am ...

Thank you for your quick reply, its exactly what i need but without sharepoint, do u know of a way with out share point? maybe with XML files... thank you atleast i know what direction to go with

You'll have to look at the actual xml values being stored in your form for the dates. You could have this in the secondary data source:
2012-02-01T01:23:34
But have this in the main data source:
2012-02-01
or even
2012-02-01 01:23:34
In which case, there's no match.
Simply drag both into the canvas and display their raw XML value ...

Hi-
On the ribbon, Save and Submit are different operations.Save: Allows the user to type in the filename.Submit: submits the form to the form library according to the rules/data connections that have been configured.Once the user has submitted, allowing them to Save is probably a bad idea. They could type in whatever filename they want ...
