You know what? Sometimes it is some crazy little bug some place and not a newbie mistake. :) Glad you found it & don't feel silly - just the other day I forgot to change something in two different (similar) views and could not figure out why I couldn't see my change.

Solution: In my situation I had 3 text areas I wanted spaces between. I inserteed '&b' without quote before the 2nd and 3rd text to separate them. Found the answer in your forum.http://www.infopathdev.com/forums/p/5181/19859.aspx

It does not happen to all machines. Any updates are done automatically by our IT department; therefore, I do not know specifically for each machine. What updates would affect the form to cause this error?
