We don't really see why this wouldn't work, as long as DBXL can connect to the database. Sadly, it's not a scenario that has been thoroughly tested by Qdabra Software. We do have a customer who has tried this scenario.
Let us know about your experience and whether you run into issues.

Are there new steps to follow to add qRules to an InfoPath 2013 form that already has custom code? I've attempted to use the instructions that were provided with InfoPath 2010, but tend to run into errors when trying to build the code.

Ok, I found a solution. I created the Main data source from two tables: the table for the Main and the Secondary sources. Then I set a Relationship.
Now everything works perfect as I "have" all Secondary fields in the Main data source and can set up a correct Filter.
