Why not just insert a link to the specific file on the InfoPath form. Then, the users can click the link and open the file. Easy, no code or full trust needed.

Hi David,
The problem of managing thousands of client machines comes up a lot. You can use group policies to force down security settings to a large set of people.
Otherwise, you could use an email data connection on a button instead. You will have to configure the data connection to dynamically take the name of the user.

Check the data type in your form. Is it a date-time? If so, maybe you can change it to just a date.

Hi Chris,
It should be working just fine without the need to bind a non-repeating control to a repeating field.
You've probably made it overly complicated.
See my attached example form. Save it, right click and choose Design and then preview.
Cheers,

Is it failing to publish right away or is it timing out? If it's timing out, it may be because the form's view is too large. We did a webinar a while back where we talked about performance tuning for browser forms: http://youtu.be/LLCRIjalEr8?t=13m45s

I know exactly the problem you are having. I had trouble finding a straightforward solution as well as I was fairly new to SharePoint and InfoPath at the time too.
Here is my blog explaining the solution I used. I hope it is detailed enough to make sense!

[quote user="Pascoea447"]Hi there, thanks for the prompt reply.

UGH! I am new to InfoPath, but I didn't think I was this stupid. Hours on this problem, and I have tried many things.
I have a drop down menu that selects an item (department code) from a 3 column SP list (department code, department description, & function - departments roll up into functions). The user sees and ...
