Hi Matthias, Are you using the GetUserProfileByName web service? if so, you can add a logic which queries the web service on form load based on the current user (userName()), and from there, set hide/show conditions based on the department value returned. I hope this makes sense.

Mike thanks for answering. I looked at the template but it doesn't give me the option to look at the rules or any formatting of field controls. I guess what I am wondering, is if the rules need to be applied in infopath, or should I be creating a separate workflow that gets started when the form is submitted... Thanks, Paul

You should first setup a data connection for each email address you want to have the form routed.  You would then create action rules based on the conditions required.   I've attached a basic template which should help figure out how to create the data connections and build the necessary rules.   Mike
