Thanks for looking at this.
I've been able to fix the problem now. For reference it was a issue with different views. We had one view which we copied to a second then added some content. In infopath it recognised the difference, as a webpage it was running the formula twice.

Hello,
I am trying to make a form which will auto populate fields after an initial selection: i.e. Select and course number will populate the fields for "faculty, course name, school, etc."
I set up a data connection from a list and created a rule for the course number to 1. query the data source, 2. set the value of a field, and then ...

I think I may have found something. Let me give this a try. Thanks again for all your help.

Euw. Sorry! Can you promote the field in the form you use for the form name, so you have that in the library as well? Another option is to use an owssvr.dll connection, but I find those to be sort of slow.

There are a few approaches you can take here - I'm attaching a sample form with two repeating tables. One displays the non repeating fields as calculated values. The other has fields in the repeating table that use defaults. Save the file locally, then right click and select design to open in design mode. From there, you can preview the form, ...

I'm having trouble with step 4. Is there a way that I can query the name of the xml instance after I've selected an employee, perhaps via the value field of the employee selected from the drop down? Ideally, I'd prefer not to blindly assume that an instance follows a particular naming convention. Rather, I'd like to have the ...

Hi Hilary,
There's this terrible thing about international software, that all those important terms are translated to Dutch when using my InfoPath/Sharepoint/MS Office stuff...
I could figure out your explanation, but with a little help from this nice youtube video, I just worked it ...

Okay,
so I figured out a lot in the last days:
1. How to understand and use datafields and queryfields - this was an important insight.
2. How calculated fields can show a single field using a filter
This is the video that helped me out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VQlWiCdbKBg
Just thought I would want to share my insight with you ...
