 Thank you so much for your great advices as always. Let me try to upload the XML file to the document library and change the connection to use the file in the library. Hope data will be retrieved when the form is opened in the web browser. Thanks again, :-)

Using SP 2013 web (MS Edge) interface to a local on-prem server. The form is not auto populating , precisely why I raised the OP - strange isn't it.

Apparently these can be retrieved with a REST query. Are you using SharePoint online or on-prem? Is this a list form? I thought list forms automatically created a data connection to return choice options....

Have your SharePoint Admin lookup the correlation ID in the ULS logs. If you are using SharePoint Online, that won't help you.... but you should double check any form load rules in that case.

You could include the XML file in the form as a resource file - that should be one of the options when you walk through the XML data connection, or you can find the resources under the data tab, add the file, then change the data connection to point to it. I can't send a copy of the form but really strange this will not update using rules. I can add the group as a default value and it captures the information in the text box. I am looking at your link to see how this can work for me. I have tried many things but nothing seems to work.
