Strange. The statement in Init() looks fine. This doesn't even require full trust. I'm not sure why you are experiencing this.

I'm suprised it ever worked. The View object doesn't exist until the OnLoad event handler has completed.
A better option is to use Open Rules (see Tools | Form Options).
Or, within the OnLoad event handler, you can use something like:
XDocument.ViewInfos(''View B'').IsDefault = true;

Two things:
1. As I understand it VS2005 requires .NET 2
2. Make sure that there's not an infopath.exe.config file in the same folder as infopath.exe. If so, rename it.

According to the schema structure you showed, there should be no namespace prefix for tblStaff. That would make your selection as follows:
thisXDocument.DOM.selectSingleNode(''//dfs:myFields/dfs:dataFields/tblStaff/@Designation'').text
But if this doesn't work, then I suspect that there is a different namespace being used. You will need to find ...

I seem to recall running into this before, and that it was a ''context'' issue.
If I recall correctly, the solution was to put a containing section around each of the inner repeating sections.

Is InfoPath installed on the other machine?

I am not very familiar with Access, but I know InfoPath does the same thing when you create a secondary data source to an XML file... it makes all fields ''text'' fields. I expect the reason they do this is because it is ''easy'' and ''fast''. I would suspect that Access does the same thing for the same reason.
I'm guessing that once you import ...

That is true. InfoPath uses XPath 1, and I'm sure will at some point be upgraded to 2. There are also a few XPath extensions the Microsoft has made which are available to you. But unfortunately, I don't believe they will integrate individual functions in one at a time, but will rather wait until XPath 2 is complete, and then make a transition. For ...

Great idea. Since you are using SharePoint, there are often GUIDs (unique identiers) involved for each list and items in the list. However if you are simply reading from the list, then you should be able to extract the form files, and modify all the data connections in the manifest.xsf file using a text editor.

This would be very helpful. I know it has been an issue for me many times. One thing I often do is to copy the formula into Notepad, fix it up there, and then copy it back. It's not always convenient, but for lengthy formulas it is helpful.
