The rules with action formulas work; however, I am unable to save the values. Do you have any solution ideas for the occurring issue?

 Have thousands of existing InfoPath forms with data in them. They have an external data connection that is going away. I want to be able to open the old forms and see the data. Is there any way to enable them to open up even if they cannot reach the external data source?

I was able to get it to work by changing all the fields and using the Set inner XML action with the Xpath code to the particular field.

You can look under Form Options > Promoted Properties in the designer. In the manifest, there are two places to look - xsf:listProperties has a fields node that will list the form fields, and assign them a GUID.
