 Hi - if your template is published to Central Admin and then activated to various site collections, you will find a copy of the form template in each site collection's Form Templates library. Am able to retrieve the manager short name using "Manager" keyword from user profile service.  Maybe add a helper field to the main data source that has for a default value a count of the repeating group and validation that it can't be zero?

 Since this is on prem, can you have the SharePoint admin get info based on the correlation ID? There will be an entry in the ULS logs.

Glad you found it - this is just a standard XPath expression, so that is what to focus on - the better you understand XPath, the easier this gets. :)
