Hi, and welcome!
This post has details on the double eval formula that can create a semi-colon delimited list of email addresses. The formula is written for a repeating field -- if you are using a field in a repeating group, the formula changes slightly -- the post has a link to another blog post that will help you with that. Again to catch up with email discussion -- the filtered xpath in the expression boxes in the sample above cause errors in the design checker for browser based forms. Here is another version that takes a different approach -- a third field to hold the filtered value and a repeating table with conditionally hidden rows.

If you also need to store a value based on which button you select, you could add a field to your data source to hold that value and set that field's value when the button is clicked.

You can find the low down on browser form compatible controls here. I'd probably use radio (option) buttons myself -- shows all the choices, makes it obvious at a glance what the other available choices are...

Hi, Ian:
I can tell you are very frustrated.
Can you type in (or supply a screenshot of) the exact message in the final window of the main data connection window, where the checkbox to enable submit is?
To see all your posts, click on your name in the upper right of the browser window -- it will take you to your user profile.
