The easiest way would be to type in the box until it is full, then copy the text to Word to get a character count. And actually, you wouldn't need to use data validation at all -- although that would be nice for your users, so they can see why they can't type anymore -- but you can just set a limit under the text box properties, at the ...

You can limit the amount of characters a user can enter using data validation. Would that meet your requirement?

Is this a browser form? If not, and if you are using InfoPath 2007, I'd like to suggest you try qRules. It is free, and has a CopyData command that will copy repeating data from a secondary data source to the main data source. This will spare you writing code! A link to the download is available here.

Any field that you want to store data in has to be in the main data source of the form. You probably need to have a repeating group in your main data source with fields for information about the stationary order as well as fields for your calculated values. Then you can use drop down lists that use your SharePoint lists for a data source to allow ...

Can you reply and attach your form template to the reply? Under the Options tab you can attach a file. If it is something you'd rather not post publically, send me a PM and I'll get you my email address.

That being said, check out this post, this one, and do a search on XPathNodeIterator to get some other ideas.

If you go to fill out a new form, the fields aren't read only? But if you open a completed form (.xml) file, the filled out fields are read only? You don't have any conditional formatting or other logic on the fields that may have caused this? What happens if you fill out the form and save to a different location (not the SharePoint ...

Hi:
First you need to create your tables in Access. Then, create a new InfoPath form and base it off your database. You'll need to connect your table when you select them for your form. So, first you'll select your 'master' table, then, with that table selected in the tree in the window for selecting tables, you'll click the ...

Hi --
The commands look the same to me, too. Can you try a different command, just to make sure everything is installed correctly? GenerateGuid is an easy one to try -- drag the data source from the QdabraRules to your form someplace, preview, and type GenerateGuid /format=N into the Command field. Tab out and see if you get a Guid in your ...
