Thank you Hilary for your answers.
At the end, I migrated the form from web form 2007 to web form and replace the data connection based on the udcx files into a data connection pointing to the library using ordering and filter the values, which wasn't possible with the 2007 version because it didn't have those options and then, republish ...

XPathNodeIterator dataNodes = QVData.Select("/dfs:myFields/dfs:dataFields/d:AD_Mirror", this.NamespaceManager);Should get you an iterator - then you can loop through them - you may need to right click AD_Mirror in the fields taskpane in the designer and select copy XPath to make sure the XPath is right above...

Thanks for the tips and I believe this is working. But since I am a newbie to InfoPath and XPathNavigators I have run into a stumbling block. The execute works. And it looks like I'm grabbing the data I want right now. Although this is a basic example of what I'm doing and will need loops in the future. ...

You'll need to create an XPath navigator for the data source - just roughing this, so it may need some clean up - but XPathNavigator adData = this.DataSources["AD_Mirror"].CreateNavigator() should get you the root of the returned data - then you can use SelectSingleNode or Select to get node(s) back....

If you are using browser forms, you'd need to check the file out the user to prevent them from accidentally overwriting each other. I have a blog post on that which might help you get started - please note it is a few years old. http://www.infopathdev.com/blogs/hilary/archive/2010/11/10/check-that-form-out-or-in-automatically.aspx

I neglected to mention when I put the Custom pattern in the Condition for the "difference" field rule it changed this: difference does not match pattern Custom Pattern: -{0,1}\d+ to "-0"

Thank you, that worked, except it calculates like yours. If I took from the 1st to the 5th off, that should be 5 days paid vacation, but it calculates 4 days....I get the subtraction is actually 4 but the actual days off are 5. Any fix to this?

The "." means you are picking the same field you are putting the rule on. When you pick a field you pick difference.

Good Day K5Optima!
In reviewing the code from the link you sent me, you do not show this rule in your "difference" field:
Add the following Rule to the difference field:
Action: Set a field's value
Field: .
Value: 0
with the following Condition on the Rule:
difference does not match ...

That's one thing I couldn't figure out. The connection.Execute() does work. But how do I get data from it and pass it to my forms fields? The only way I could get this to work is what you see in my code.
If I could get the connection.Execute() to work then that would be nice.
