I completely agree. The printing functionality is not great. I was talking with another on another thread and they were complaining about printing functionality. If you go to InfoPath's fact sheet they specifically state that this is not a reporting tool, it is a data capture tool. They state to use a 3rd party tool for reporting. I know you ...

Hello all,
First of all I'm new to infopath but I'm already very impressed with what I've seen.
I have a question. I'm not after people providing me with the code - thats cheating - just some advice from those who are in the know :)
I have created an infopath form which I have published onto our mail file Server (Server 2003). All XP client ...

I agree with how the rules situation can make things ''hidden'' a lot of times. I think Microsoft should implement some kind of ''Rules Task Pane'' where you can see all of the rules throughout the current view in one consolidated section. The same could be said about default value formulas.
In Excel a seperate ''rules'' or ''formulas'' panel ...

Thank you for the tip, Frank. That did it! I'm pretty new to XPath and it has my head spinning at times, but I got this to work with your suggestion. The final expression is:
sum(/descendant-or-self::node()/my:Item[my:PartNum = current()/../my:PartNum]/my:ItemQty)
So I substituted "current()/../my:PartNum" for the hardcoded ...

Thank you Franck - I will pursue that avenue.

Hi,
Yes you can. In Tools / Form Options / Open and Save Tab, check the Save Using Custom Code. This will create an OnSaveRequest event handler for you.
In there you need to use the XDocument.UI.SetSaveAsDialogLocation to achieve what you are looking for.

Hi Trent,
Indeed, perfomance will benefit from splitting the View. In my experience, users don't like Tab-like setup in InfoPath until they realize:
1. How much scrolling they really have to do (especially if you have optional sections, repeating sections, etc.)
2. How slow the form can get.
So, you are shy of 1500 controls on your main View. ...

Thanks for the feedback. I agree with the points that you have mentioned. I've been bitten a couple of times by non-obvious rules put in by other developers. For this reason, I tend to script actions where possible.

I feel your pain - most of my forms are based on replacing our old Word standards. I hopefully will be proved wrong in saying this, but until Infopath addresses the shortcomings in the printing department, we are relegated to page breaks and code work arounds. Hopefully the next release of Infopath will address tables (and ideally sections) as ...

I agree that there are very few pleasing 'aftermarket' active x check boxes. I'll work with my programmers to see what they can come up with. My form is 9 pages printed with an average of 150 controls per page. Thus far I've stuck with one view (the users like being able to scroll through the form) but I'm guessing that Franck is suggesting ...
