I tried to go to File-Merge Forms, but it does not give me the option of merging the forms I've attached to my infopath form...
If I misunderstood your reply, can you forward me a link to an example? I am a novice.

For the button, did you try conditional formatting to disable your button whenever a node in the schema was flagged to ''false'' (for example) when that button is clicked?
For your second issue, did you try to use the Task Pane?

the above will never work (unless you install a portal on every users machine ;-)
remember, you can look at your InfoPath form as a smartclient that the user executes locally. You can not use server logic on a local client.
