I have a dropdown list containing Item 1, Item 2, Item 3 etc. The value is set as same. There is a default entry of all with a value of all.
I then have a section and on using the condtional format option, I have under If this condition is true:

1)Have a view say ''Forms'' in ur InfoPath form.
2)Retrieve the various forms from the database and display it in a Repeating Section.Keep a button in each row of the repeating section to display the measures for that form as follows...

Hi Taffman,
I use web services to achieve the same.There are 2 types of data connections namely ''Receive'' and ''Submit'' data connections.
U can use these to retrieve and insert data to a database.

U can accomplish this by writing a web service and creating a ''Receive'' data connection to this web service.
When the user enters the current month and clicks a ''Submit'' button,pass the current month(or date) as the input parameter to the web service.

Could you possible give me a little more information with regard to the second part of your reply.
Have InfoPath query for the XY list, then display a selection for the user to choose the item, then subsequently requery for the measures for that item.
I am not sure exactl;y how to do this,

1. Double click on text filed and click on data validation button
2. Go Event drop down filed and select ‘on after change#%92 and click on edit button
3. Write the code.
