Query Builder - Cannot Connect to Datasource

Hi, I am previewing the Qdabra package and when I try to create a query using the query builder, I get the following error:

The query cannot be run for the following DataObject: DescribeListSchema
InfoPath cannot run the specified query.
The SOAP message cannot be parsed.

I am very new to this software package and I don't know what other information would be good to provide. I have filled in the web service url and the sharepoint list url. Please help.

    Hello,

In the Web Service URL Prefix field, enter the URL to your host. Sounds like you've already done this, so that step is covered.

Then you have to select between querying a database and querying a SharePoint list.

    • If using QueryDB, you will need to provide the Database Connection String. (But Query Builder allows you to construct the string; just click on Construct now, and you’ll be able to enter the Server name and Database name - then click Done to have Query Builder generate the connection string). Then under Query Parameters, you'll need to provide a Table Name.
    • If using QuerySharePoint, you will need to provide the SharePoint list URL.

In the Query Columns section, click the Select icon. If you obtain an error there may be an authentication issue. Otherwise, if everything is set up correctly, the schema will load in the (right hand) taskpane.

Hi and thanks for your response. I am trying to connect to a sharepoint list and I have selected that button. A further error I receive is as follows:

Could not determine the database schema. Check your connection string and try again.

    Details:

Infopath has encountered an error. The operation failed.

The form's code contains an error.

The following call in the form's code failed: WebServiceAdapter.Query Operation aborted

If this is an authentication issue, what could I do next to troubleshoot?

    Hello,

Are your DBXL installation and SharePoint server on the same box?

Query Builder is working fine when I query SharePoint list. I'm guessing that it's authentication issue. Are you accessing the box from the internet? Just to rule out, make sure you have a VPN connection.

Was there any more to this error above?  I would have expected there would be more details.  If there are, they could help us out quite a bit.

OK, I uninstalled the Query Builder and I am attempting to reinstall. When going through the prompts, if I choose the "Everyone" prompt, I get the following error:

    RegForm Custom Action Failure

Cannot create InfoPath.ExternalApplication object. Error code = 0x80080005

The install runs successfully if I choose "Just Me".

I'm reaching here, but didn't know if this would be of assistance. I am logged in as administrator on the Domain Controller itself.

Re: Query Builder - Cannot Connect to Datasource

The most likely cause of the "Could not determine the database schema. Check your connection string and try again." error is that the query builder is unable to establish a connection to the web service, and not necessarily an internal error in Query Builder.  This could be due to a number of possible reasons:

    • The web service is not properly installed
    • There are security settings blocking Query Builder from connecting
    • The URL is incorrect

Could you first double-check the URL? It is my understanding that you are working with qWSSP.  If that is the case, and you installed it in the default location, you will need to change the text box that says "QdabraWebService" to say qWSSP, or another directory if you installed it in another location.

If that still does not work, please verify that the web service is running by opening a browser and going to the defaut page of the web service (usually http://[server name]/[installed directory] and clicking the top link ("Administration Tool").  If that opens successfully, it is a good sign that the service is running and that there aren't any security settings blocking you.

I was able to repro this error message by trying to query a ShP list while not VPNd in. That means that the ShP list is inaccesible (via IE or anything else).

But let's go back to that later. Now we need to reinstall Query Builder. For information on this, please see: http://www.infopathdev.com/files/folders/installation_and_setup/entry32284.aspx and let us know if this solves the issue.

Jimmy, you got me in the right direction. I had the wrong service listed, I changed it to qWSSP and the error went away. Now when I click on the connection, a field selection box is brought up. Is this what should happen? It has a bunch of html that I cannot copy, here is the top line:

     <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">

Basically I have a form that pulling from a large sharepoint list and I need to filter certain drop down menus and text boxes using the qWSSP web service. Am I headed in the right direction?

Re: Query Builder - Cannot Connect to Datasource

The taskpane is showing the source of the taskpane content instead of the content itself.  To remedy this, please do the following:

Go to Tools->Options... in Internet Explorer
    Click the Security tab
Make sure the Internet zone is selected and click the "Custom level..." button
Scroll down to "Open files based on content, not file extension" in the Miscellaneous section
    Change the option to "Enable"

If that does not work, please try the same steps for Local Intranet and Trusted Sites. One of them should do the trick.
