Infopath sync problems with SQL Server database...

    Hi there,

     Hope everyone's well.

The problem I have is to do with values that are submitted from an infopath form when it's not completed and the values within the sql server database.

The Infopath forms are in a form library in sharepoint and the values entered get sent to an SQL server database apon submission.  The problem is, If a person doesn't fill in all the values within the form and then submits it, the values go in to the database.  if, at a later stage, the form is updated, there will be an error (see below). Even thought they can save the form and the new values will show, they will not be entered into the database and the database will still have all of the old field info.

I want to know if anyone knows of a way to avoid this problem, perhaps there is code that can be added to the infopath form to prevent people from submitting a form when fields have missing values?

    Hope someone can help me.

     InfoPath cannot submit the form.
An error occurred while the form was being submitted.
[0x80040E38][Microsoft Cursor Engine] Row cannot be located for updating. Some values may have been changed since it was last read.

    Hello,

I believe you just want to disable submit until all the fields in the form get filled out, right? And if this is implemented, then syncing with the SQL Server database will work as expected?

Perhaps I can help you with disabling submit in your form. Please follow the steps below:

    1. Mark the appropriate fields (i.e. those fields that are often missed out) as "Cannot be blank". You can also add data validation to your fields so that if a certain field is blank, a screentip or a message window will be displayed.

    2. Create a Submit button and add a conditional formatting, such that: if the field "is blank", then disable the control. (You might want to disable the Submit menu item and the Submit menu toolbar button which can be set under Submit Options in InfoPath's menu.)

In doing so, the only way that the form gets submitted is through the Submit button which is disabled (not clickable) untill the form is complete.

Thanks Mel for your help on this. And, sorry I never got back to you sooner.

Incidently, my Aunt in law comes from the Philippines.

    Hey Paul,

No worries. Were you able to fix the problem though?

Really? Your Aunt is from the Philippines? Send my regards please. Tell her I said, "Mabuhay". =)

    Cheers!

Really, She lives in London with my Uncle, her name is Rosmary.  I'll try say Mabuhay but I don't know if I'll get the pronunciation right hehe.

I've not tried the technique yet cause I've had to develop a database.  Once I get round to it I'll let you know how I get on.

    Thanks,Paul
