    Filtering Data Connection

I am able to use a data connection to display information from an Infopath document library list specific in an Infopath Detail page; however I need to filter the data based on an
    id which I pass the form from a previous search result set;

In other words; within my Infopath form I need to use a data connection - to receive data but filtered - then populate fields in the form -

The data received or queried should be filtered by a url variable which I pass it - I am able to pass the variable to infopath
but am not sure how to tell infopath to use the passed varibale in filtering the data it receives from another list

Unless you use a web service, you cannot filter or "query" a secondary data connection.

You would have to load the data and then use a filter to only display the data that matched the filter or exclude what you did not want.

    Re: Filtering Data Connection

     Thanks Clay for your response:

How would I successfully go about doing this?

    Clay Fox:

You would have to load the data and then use a filter to only display the data that matched the filter or exclude what you did not want.

As it seems like the exact method I was looking to use; what I am currently doing is the following:

Setting a textbox to have a "data connected" value

I filter this value by clicking "filter" and then specifying the "heading" textbox value from my form to equal the data connected heading value.

This method does not seem to return any info though???

I know data is coming through as when I dont do a filter the last value on the list comes through.

    Thanks again

I would verify the values are an exact match with no extra characters.

Typically you would use a dropdown list or something where the user selects the filtered value from the secondary data, rather than typing in something free hand so that you can make sure there is a match.

    Re: Filtering Data Connection

For anyone looking to complete this scenario without coding it can be done by following the steps listed in this blog:

     http://blogs.msdn.com/infopath/archive/2007/01/15/populating-form-data-from-sharepoint-list-views.aspx

It basically uses an XML data connection from a Sharepoint list.

    Cheers
