Locating a value in a drop-down list by typing

    Hi,

I have a drop-down list holding three digit numbers, all of them starting with 1. I would like for the users to be able to start entering a number manually and have the drop-down control walk thru the list as the user types. Currently it only seems to register the first digit, and thus only jumping to the next number in the list, not registering the next two digits. For instance I have the numbers 180, 181, and 183. Typing “183” the first time, gives the result 180. Typing “183” the second time gives me 181 etc. Is it possible “jumping” to 183 at once?

    Thanks!

    Hi Therese,

Are you using InfoPath 2007?  I was curious about your post, so I tested a drop down control with some 3 digit numbers in it by "tabbing" to the control and typing.  It seems that the drop down controls react differently based on the speed you are typing the numbers in.  For example, when I typed "1", like you mentioned, it takes me to the first number in the list.  When I typed "10" in succession it took me to "101".  Likewise, when I typed "183" quickly it took me straight to "183".  I tried typing "1", then waited a second and typed "8", but it did not register and stayed in the same spot.  Try it out!  I hope this helps :)

    Hi Patrick,

    Thank you for your answer!

It seems that the drop-down list acts differently when the form is published to Forms Server than when it's published to a network location. On forms published to FS it seems like there's a short delay or something when typing in succession, making the "cursor" jump back up to the following value in the list. "Opening" the list using alt + arrow down fixed it though. For forms published to a network location we don't see this problem at all...
