What is the envisaged use of DocID and RefID compared with the SQL table identity ?, which should be used for what ?

DocId is a sequential, unique ID which is global, essentiall the PK for the document table.

RefID is a sequential and unique ID for each document type or template.

Typically these would be used instead of an identity column for parent data but then repeating child tables would use an identity column.

Using the DBXL ID accomplishes the same need but also provides a link to the actual document as well.

In order to use the RefID, use URLs with the following format:
http://<servername>/QdabraWebService/Documents/<DocTypeName>/<RefID>.xml

For DocID, use:
http://<servername>/QdabraWebService/Documents/<DocID>/<DocID>.xml

As Clay said, DocID will be unique for each document in your installation of DBXL, while RefID is unique only within each Document Type.

NOTE: The only supported url format for DBXL v2.1 and earlier is using the DocID as stated by Ernesto.  The RefID usage is a new feature coming in DBXL v2.2.
