pass parameters (form data) to template

(Sorry for this repeated topic, but I don't know in which board I can post my question....)

    Hi,

I plan to do in such a way:

User selects an ID (e.g. other user's ID, to see his public information) on a web page, and then this web page will be redirected to the URL of a template. After the user chooses to open this template, data corresponding to the ID he selected will be displayed in the form.
We can't run InfoPath to open the template from the web page. InfoPath will only be executed when the user click the "open" button when explorer prompts to download the template.

The puzzle here I believe is how to pass the ID to the template so that when the template is opened, it can get the correct data from the database.

Can anyone tell me whether it is practical?
If yes, how to pass the parameter to the template?
    If no, any other solution?

    Thanks!

    Hi,
You can take a default XML file of your template and set ID value in that and throw that XML to the user. As the XML file will have the reference to template it will open direclty with your template.

For code to throw XML files from webpage, please search in old forums.

    Hi Agni,

Actually I have implemented what you said before posting this topic.

What I am doing now is to open the template directly.
I found some sample JS codes which is said that can manage this. However, it has some problem on my machine. That is, JS code "var oApp = new ActiveXObject("InfoPath.Application");" just returns a null reference.
Can you help me on this?

    Thanks!

    Hi Agni,

Yes, I read this post before.
One thing I forgot to mention in my question is that the technic I am adopting has no capability to write file on server/client machines. And what's more, sharepoint is not available...

However, I've got that JS codes working.:)

    Many thanks!
