Now () Function Question - InfoPath 03 and Sharepoint 03

    Hi,

I have a hidden field that is being used to show the current date and time.  I'm using the Now () function.  Very simple.

It works fine in preview mode because its pulling the system date and time from my pc.  But when I publish to Sharepoint 03, the date and time does not appear.  Any thoughts on why the Sharepoint 03 server is not allowing the date and time to show in the field.  Do I have to do something special with the Now () function because I'm publishing to Sharepoint?

    Thanks in advance

    Lou

This is in a browser form? No you are using 2003.  So I do not think that should make a difference.

Just because it is stored in in SP2003 it stillopens and is rendered locally.

If it is hidden how do you see the value? :)

Thanks for the reply.  When I make the form production, I will make it a hidden field.  :o)

For testing purposes, its not hidden.  So why do you think its not showing up after I publish the form.  In preview mode (Design mode), it works fine.

The reason that I want to have a field that posts the current date and time and be hidden is because I want to call the field when the form is submitted and use it as part of the xml file name.  This will create a unique identifier file name because the the file may be opened and and re-submitted and I don't want to overwrite the existing file.

Do you know of another way to do this?  Maybe I should include the date time function in the formula for submitting.  Will that work?

No you are following the proper practice.

Are you using a default, a setfield action in rules, or code?

Another test is to create an expression box which just displays now(). See what happens to that.

Re: Now () Function Question - InfoPath 03 and Sharepoint 03

I got it to work by adding the now function to the re-submit data connection.  I used a concat function calling a field name (project name) and then added the now function.

My first submit data connection does not include this because I want the first submit to just create an xml with text and the project name.  The re-submit is used after changes are made to the xml.  In this case, submits with the same file name but adds the date and time.  Now I have a unique file name everytime changes are made and the re-submit button is hit.

I just can seem to get a few spaces in the function so the file name is easy to read.  Any thoughts on this.

Here is the function.   concat("SDLC Project Profile - ", field10, now())

    Thanks

    Lou

You just need to add some space. concat("SDLC Project Profile - ", field10, " ", now())
