I am new to infopath. We have office2003, including infopath 2003 on the desktop. I will be developing infopath forms that will be used as part of a Sharepoint server 2007 implementation. I have worked a little with infopath 2003. Sharepoint 2007 will soon be on a server and I will need to develop forms that run in a browser under Sharepoint 2007. My reading tells me that I will need...
a) Office2007 (that is infopath 2007) to publish the forms to the Sharepoint 2007 server and run in a browser.
-- Is this correct? If so, does that mean that I must have infopath 2007 on my desktop? Will Sharepoint 2007 have a client that I could use to develop the infopath forms? If I need to have my office suit updated to 2007, I will need lead time to have procurement purchase the software.
b) This next question may be a bit advanced but...Using infopath 2003, I tried using a primary datasource (MS Access) to set up fields with a pull down. The idea here is that the detail table would be populated with codes based on a code table (the code table has the description for that code). Sooo, the detail table as an example might have a name code for the person who is responsible for the action. The code and name of the person resides in a master table. For adding a new record the pull down would show the name, but when the form was submitted the code would populate the detail table. Can this be done by only using the infopath basics or do I need to write vb code to make this work? Will infopath 2007 have an advanced features that might make this an easier task so I will eventually be developing using infopath 2007?
Any help here is greatly appreciated. More questions are sure to follow but I need to get through certain gates before I can continue.
