    issue with browser infopath form

    Hi,

We have an issue with  MSI installation of  infopath form on MOSS 2007 server.  The form has managecode and gets the data from SQL server database.  This form works fine with Microsoft  infopath client application. The installtion fails on the server with this error.

     cannot find infopath.externalapplication error code = 0x800401f3 .

Please advise how to resolve this issue.

I also want to know if the browser forms are allowed to use SQL server connections to recive the data.

It'll be hard to say without looking at the solution but here's a shot in the dark:

You seem to be using InfoPath.ExternalApplication, this is an ActiveX object used to automate InfoPath rich client. Since it does not exist on the server, it will not work. Even if you did install InfoPath on the server it probably wouldn't do what you expect to do.

For the SQL question, I believe it should work although I have not tried it myself. You might need to do some configuration first:

    - Go to Sharepoint Central Administration
    - Select Application Management, Configure InfoPath Forms Services and check the "Allow embedded SQL authentication" checkbox

    Good luck!

Thanks for your reply.  I want to know how to install the runtime component of rich client application. When the form is designed, the option to render to support rich client is enabled.

We get the error message - in a window that says - Regform custom action failure.

    Please advise. thxs

Re: issue with browser infopath form

I have not really played with RegForm in 2007 so I am not familiar with its errors. As for the runtime component, it is not redistributable - you only get it when you install the rich client. Browser-enabled forms are inherently limited in many aspects due to their nature (the business logic runs on a shared server as opposed to the client's machine) and as such, there are several scenarios that are simply not supported.

Sorry I cannot provide you with a better advice.
