Adding attachments to form and storing them in a SP library?

Hi, I posted this post in the Browser Forms forum and was advised to post my question here (original post at http://www.infopathdev.com/forums/p/6401/23603.aspx)

I did do some searching of the forum on this and ended up a little confused. I am very new to InfoPath and XML, I have just set myself up a form library in sharepoint and made the template browser enabled, and added some fields, got them going into columns in the library etc.

I want to know how you can allow the user to add an attachment (presumably using the file attachment control) but then store this attachment in a library on sharepoint- I am guessing you cannot directly add the attachment to the form- but I basically need somewhere to store that attachment with the same name as the form (so It can be found easily) and so that users can view it.

I hope that made some sense. Basically, user attaches file to form, then when they submit the form, form gets stored in its own library and attachment goes into another (with the same name as the form is saved as- i currently save the form as PO & the contents of a field orderNo on the form to uniquely identify it).

Any ideas? I am pretty new to this :-)

Previous post suggests you can create a web service to save the attachment in another library when submitting the form? How?

    Thanks

    Hey Stef,

You can embed the attachment in the Infopath form but then you would need to open the InfoPath form to open the attachment.

I would think that you could add some code to save the attachment or related document to Sharepoint via their webservice and then put a hyperlink in your form to the related file in Sharepoint.  If the name was the same then it would be pretty easy.

You would have to do this via code and create the routinue for browsing for the file, selecting it and then submitting it to Sharepoint with the correct name you would need a fully trusted form.  What type of files are you attaching? If they are PDF files you can display them inside your form without having to open them.

Ideally, they could access them through the form instead of needing a seperate direct access method.

    Hi,

Is it easy to embed the attachment within the form then? Does this act just as a link at the bottom.. I think its an excel file that will be attached.

    Thanks.

Add an attachment control to a form and try it.

It has the typical browse functionality for attaching the file.  Others can open or save the file via the control.
