Error - The form is associated with a URN-based form template....

    Hi All,

We have many Infopath forms in my current company.  When a form is completed and emailed to someone who has never used the form before, they recieve the above message and the form wont open.  The fix so far has been for the user to go and open the original form from sharepoint, close it and then open the completed form from Email and its worked fine.  However as we are producing more and more forms, this problem is becoming increasly annoying, is there a way to prevent the error happening aside from what we are doing?

    Many Thanks

    Hi

I have released many Infopath Forms and have accasionally come accross this error.  The cause is because the form with this URN is associated with a form other than the one that is being opened.  Once you go onto SharePoint the URN Associates itself with the correct version and it works fine.

To sort this you need to republish your form with a different URN.  This can be modified by going into the 'File' Menu and selecting 'Properties' and there is a text box that you can adjust but make it according to the below site's recommendations

    This will then work fine

    Thanks for the prompt reply.

One question though, if i make the change (say from edit in sharepoint library) will it cause any issues for the exisiting users or the existing completed forms in that library?

    Thanks

In a word 'Yes' People will have to update all their locally saved forms with the new one with the new URN. One idea I have utilised in the past for significant changes is the way to query the old data so that although the forms disappear they can be recreated through the new URN. Best Solution would obviously be to create a new forms library to house the new form in to really keep it clean. Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings Cheers
