    Problems with "Do you want to save changes" dialog box

    Hi there --

    I have a user-related issue that is driving everyone batty.  I mentioned it as part of a group of questions earlier (http://www.infopathdev.com/forums/t/6071.aspx) and thought the solution to the set would fix it, but it still lingers.

    I have an InfoPath 2003 form published to a SharePoint 2003 library.  Every month, project managers use the form to create a progress report on their project(s).  Here's the scenario:

    1. Let's say the PM created the first report ever for Project XYZ at the end of July.  The form automatically names the posted document based on the name of the project and the report date field contained in the form.  So, for example, this report is named Project XYZ 2007-07-30.
    2. The end of August arrives and the PM goes to the library to create the Aug report.  Being a smart, efficient person, rather than opening a new, blank form where she'll have to re-enter a lot of information that's the same as last month, she opens the July report, makes a few changes, then Submits.  This works fine; a new report titled Project XYZ 2007-08-31 is created, and she sees a "thank you for submitting your report" dialog.  She clicks OK.
    3. Here's the monkey wrench:  She now sees a dialog that asks "Do you want to save changes to Project XYZ 2007-07-30?"  It is asking if the July report she opened at the beginning should be saved with the changes.  Because she doesn't read the dialog carefully, and is conditioned to click YES whenever these sorts of dialogs pop up after working in a doc, she clicks Yes.  The result is that we now have Project XYZ 2007-07-30 and Project XYZ 2007-08-31 with the same content, the new content for August.

    I have tried everything I can think of -- the solutions offered in the previous thread, unchecking the "overwrite" option when publishing, etc.  I realize this is a "user error" problem, but no matter how many times I've discussed and demonstrated the need to click NO on that dialog, the majority continue to click YES.  I would desperately like to get rid of the dialog altogether.  I'm not a programmer but I could copy/paste code into the script editor if there is a solution in that direction.

    Can anyone offer a solution?

    Hello Why dont you try making the form read only(Shift to Read Only View) when the form is submitted? So that the Read only form cannot be overwritten.

    Hi Kalyan  --

    I tried that, as suggested in the previous thread.  The default form of the form was Read-Only.  A button on the form allowed the user to switch the view back to an editable version in order to make updates.  When submitted, the "do you want to save" dialog for the original form still appeared.  I can't seem to get around the fact that they need an editible version of a previous submission and NOT be asked to re-save the original.

    Do you have code in your form?  If you are closing the form after submission, then you can have the following code to skip the save dialog:

    XDocument.View.Window.Close(true);
