"Updating Site Content Type failed" error message

    Hi,

We have a browser enabled Infopath 2007 Template on SharePoint 2007 .  The Template and the library were initially created by my manager on his machine.  Recently, I started working on the template. I have enabled versioning process.  I checked out the template, saved it on to the local drive of the MOSS server itself and right from the first attempt to publish that template, I had been getting a "Updating site content type failed" error message.  When I go and check the version history for the template, I see the template I attempted to publish.  When I check it in, I can see the changes.  After that, when I tried to open the sites that were created based on that template, on MOSS server I get a dialog box with Open, Save or Cancel options and I can open the site.  However, the users get an error message and unable to open any site.  In essence, the publish is not useful to the end users.

For a week or so, we were able to get by, by my manager accessing the version history of the template and published the same template from his account of the MOSS server successfully.  This week, even he got the same error. So now we are stuck.  We did restore the previous version which was working and allowed our users to access the site.  However, we are not in a position to publish any further changes to the template.

Appreciate your help in this regard.

     Thanks,

     Swamy

My only suggestion at this time would be to check the server event log and the Sharepoint logs to see if there is a better error message than just "updating failed"...

This thread has instructions on how to get to the Forms Server logs: http://www.infopathdev.com/forums/p/5513/20653.aspx#20653
