You cannot open it at all ?
Try right clicking on it and select Design. Then try to publish it again to the location wehre it is supposed to be now.

Are we talking about the .xsn file ? Then yes by right clicking you can choose Design, then a message appears which says something like: This form has been published to one location and then saved or moved to another location. Before deploying this form to the user you should publish it again. Now you can make some changes (or not) and publish it again.

Remember that all existing XML documents will not be pointing to the template at that new location. That means that those documents won't open if you just double-click them. What you will need to do is update the PIs in those documents. You can do this by hand by opening each file and looking for the "<?mso-infoPathSolution ...>" at the top of the form. Then alter the href attribute in there to point to your new XSN location. We also have a tool to make this even easier. It's called unsurprisingly the Modify InfoPath PI Tool. :) You can get it at:

This tool allows you to change the PI for multiple files simultaneously and give you a nice pretty dialog to do it in. All you do is right-click the file to do a single file or select a directory of XML files to do multiple files.

Re: InfoPath template moved fromm the published location

    Hey Shiraz -

We want to move our XSN file from one server to another server - but the question remains, what to do with the existing forms that were pointing at server A.  I know that anyone who has previously opened a form on server A will have a cache of the XSN on their computer, so they'll still be able to open the form if InfoPath can't resolve the URL, but this does not account for new computers, or hard drive failures.

We plan to go "day forward" with new forms - that is, distribute an XML file that has the new URL on server B in the PI.  I take it the Modify InfoPath PI tool would be the obvious immediate solution for anyone who wanted to bring a server A form to the Server B environment?

If so, this may solve a very large headache for us...

    Please confirm?

    Thanks!

    Jean

    Hello Jean,

You are correct since in your case, since the form is exactly the same and just moving to a new server. You can manually modify the HREF attribute at the top of the XML file to verify that putting in the new server location works. The Modify InfoPath PI tool provides a user-friendly way of changing the URL reference to the new server location. It allows a user to just right-click the file and then enter the new URL in a dialog.

    Thanks, Shiraz
