Let me try a new approach...

I've been attempting to access an Access Database and pull data from it and have specific data populate fields in my Infopath form. I am able to access the database, but am not able to bring down the data as I want as follows:

The fields in the DB are:
    Oper_Unit
    Project
    Originator
    Sum_BU_Amount

In my Infopath form, I have two Drop down list boxes... one labeled as Unit Number, which corresponds to 'Oper_Unit' in the DB, and the other is labeled as PA#, which corresponds to 'Project' in the DB.

When I preview the form, and click on the Unit Number, ALL occurances of say unit # 1410 appears... maybe 20 or so, followed by the next unit # in the DB.. 10 or so occurances(however many records are in the DB). First I want to know how to only have one occurance be shown. I can do this with a simple List box, but I don't think that will work for want I need to do.

For the PA# box, based on which Unit number is selected... 1410, or 1420, etc., I want a list of PA#s to be displayed for the specic Unit number.

Now... once I click on the specific PA#, shown in the list, I want to be able to pull data from that specific PA# and populate specific data into my Infopath form fields.

Can someone please help me with this? I'm certainly no expert with Infopath, NOR XML code. As I said.... I am partly successful... I can access the DB, and using a Drop down box, I get a list of ALL records in the DB, BUT I just want to see one occurance of each Unit #, then a list of PA#'s for the specific Unit # I may select, then once I select a specific PA#, be able to populate data from that specific PA#.

I suspect this should not be hard to do.... but as they say... unless you know how.... it IS hard.... and I don't know how.

This sounds like a job for the data filters provided by InfoPath.

For the first problem, please check out this HowTo:

For the second problem you will use another data filter, but this time it will be on the PA# drop-down. The data filter will be something like this:

'Oper_Unit' "is equal to" "Unit # Field (in InfoPath schema)"

For the third problem about opening detail data after a PA# has been chosen, please see this HowTo:

    http://infopathdev.com/howto/tutorials/default.aspx?i=9111ef580f95479890fc18fb2c5bac85

I hope this helps, let us know if there are any questions!
