Verify if data entered from a form already exists in the database

    Hi,

I would like to know how to verify if a certain field already exists in a table before I submit it to a database. I would like to make sure there are no duplicate names. Thanks

    Welcome to the forum.

You would need to query the database with a secondary data connection. I would create a view in SQL that just showed the field you need to check. Then in your form you can have a rule check this data connection if there is a duplicate when data is entered by the user.

If you are working with databases a lot you should check out the Database Accelerator Webservices Download.  It makes working with databases much easier and removes the limitations of database type forms.

Thanks for the reply. I am supposed to finish this project without the use of webservices, will the 2nd view suggestion permit this? or do i need to use webservices?

Thanks, your View suggestion did work correctly and give me an error message if the Data is duplicated, but it still allows me to Submit the form. is there a way to dissable the submit button if the error message appears?

you would just do whatever logic you needed in your form.  I would probably reject their input and reset the field when a duplicate is detected but you could also pop an alert and use conditional formating to disable submit.

If you are using the toolbar submit, I would use validation. You could use an existing field or create one just for this purpose.
