InfoPath Dev

I am new to Infopath and SQL (My Apologies) I have created several infopath form reading and writing to access databases but this is my first to a SQL database.

I have a form with a query at the top that allows users to select a previous form and pull that data into the form. This works ok.

The user can then update the information and press the submit button and the data is written back to the database. The record is updated in the database with the new information. This is ok

When the user updates the information and wants to save as a new record I have a check box on the form that the user checks to indicate a new record. This check box updates the project_id field which is the primary key in the database. Unfortunately what should be a new record is written over the old record in the database.

Everything is written to the SharePoint site fine. I have .Net and can use that if the solution is easier.
