One Form: Two unconnected Access Tables: How??

I am trying to set up a simple(!) Requisition Header/Requisition Pick List Infopath form, taking data from an access database(but not updating it).

Header Info: Choose a contract from a drop down, and populate the Name, Address, Contact Fields on the infpath form with data from ContractTable.

Pick List Info: Display records from CatalogTable. User ticks the required items. Easy! BUT - I can't make it work on one form. Present solution is two sepatarate forms!

Is there a way to achieve this without getting too deep into programming? (No is a valid answer!)

    Thanks in advance, Roy

Hi Roy Lawrence and welcome to our forum!
I think this is doable without code, but I'm a bit in the dark about what "User ticks the required items" means. Can you enlighten me. This may require some special considerations, but depends on the definition for "tick". Which control are you referring to here?

    Hi Patrick
    Thanks for the reply.
There is less to this than meets the eye!

I should have said check boxes.
The main view shows all the items.
A second view includes only those that the user has selected.

A post on page six of this forum tells you how configure a button to open another form. That's edging closer to a solution!

    Hi Roy Lawrence,
You need to use the code for this, because you need to prepare an XML for the new form to be opened, and you need open with that XML.

If you want to open a new blank form you can use rules for that.

    Hope this Helps!

    Hi Agni.
Opening a second form is only a short term workaround.
The question is getting data from two unrelated tables onto the one form - - - - without complex code!

    Hi Roy,
Have you experimented with conditional formatting? Double click on a control, go to display, add a condition and make it dependent on a "tick". You can do this with entire sections to switch on and off parts of the view to customize it for the request type at hand. Declarative syntax rules!

Problem Solved!! and without complicated coding!!

    1. To the MAIN datasource, I added a group, and fields to the group for each of the fields that I wanted to see on the form for holding data from the Secondary datasource.

    2. I then added rules to the Drop Down Box, so that once the record was selected it populated each of the new fields in the Main Datasource with information from the secondary datasource.

My form now works really well. Maybe I should have got there sooner, but this solution was not immediately obvious (to me anyway!). (If a sample form and database would help anyone I will create one)

    Many thanks Patrick and Agni.

    Hi Roy,
Great to hear this! I don't think we helped much though... sounds like you figured it out on your own. Anyway, Rules work great for automatically fields based on other fields. Sorry, but I thought you wanted to show/hide sections and controls (in which case, Conditional Display is the approach). Anyway, glad you solved your problem. Have fun!
