InfoPath form always prompting to Login

    Hello,

I am using InfoPath on a SharePoint server. Every user has to login to SharePoint. Then when most of the users go to edit or fill out a blank form they are prompted to once again login. And for some of the users even if they click to 'Remember my password', the password is not remembered, so every time they go to fill out a form they have to re-enter their password. But some of the users are not prompted at all for the user name and password when they open a form. Anybody know what is creating these different conditions. It is driving some of my users crazy. I do not need the added security of the additional login and would love to get rid of it for everybody.

    Thanks,
    Dave

Have you checked the Internet Explorer Tools->Internet Options->Security settings? If the site is not in your existing domain, you can add it as trusted (but then C# code won't work so well). If you join the domain via VPN you can set the site in your Local Intranet list. You may also need to verify that all users have correct permissions on your SharePoint site.

I assume you are not talking about the popup warning that says "Some documents can harm your computer ...". If that's the issue, you can set the registry to not have that dialog popup.

    Good luck!

The SharePoint site was already set as Trusted in IE.

What are the permissions you are referring to for SharePoint. I am an administrator in SharePoint and I am still prompted everytime I open a form for my user name and password.

If the form uses C# then you will need to set the site to Local Intranet security and remove it from Trusted.

I am not using any managed code in the InfoPath forms. They are relatively simple forms.

    Hi Dave,
OK, then this doesn't sound like an InfoPath question but rather a Web site authentication issue. As you may know SharePoint and Web site configuration can be rather complex. Sorry, we can't help you much here.

I think Patrick is really close on this one. We had the same problem. we are all in a 2003 domain. Heres what we did:

    From IE:
Tools > Internet options > Security tab > custom level
then scroll all the way down to "User authentication" - "Login"
then activate "automatic logon with current username and password"
    ok,ok,ok,ok

Now everyone frontpage is the sharepoint portal and they have a link to the exchange and document control site, and form libraries and the forms, never once prompt for anything.

OPTIONAL: group policy for frontpage and internet security settings.
