From published form to SQL 2012 Database, what goes in between?

Hello, I'm new here, and also very new to InfoPath 2010 and Sharepoint 2013. I have been asking to create a form that users will fill out. The information once submitted, will go into a SQL Database that I will design to fit whatever is entered into the form. I have created a form in Infopath 2010, and this is the first time I have used this. I started with a blank form, and currently I do not have the means to publish it in Sharepoint. What I would like to know it, should I have started with any particular type of form? I notice I can submit to a Web Service, is this the gateway (or at least part of it), that will get the information entered into the form, into the SQL database? Ideally the form can also be saved as a PDF, or recalled without having to recall all the info from the database (unless that is possible in which case that could also work), and finally, open up the form, change something if need be (dates, typos), and have just the changed data submitted (or I guess it could overwrite the all the original entries, the result is the same if somewhat resource intensive). I have kind of digressed from what I originally come on here to ask! What was, what elements need to be in place between the form getting submitted, and the data getting into the database, to make it all happen. I guess I just need to know what to ask for, set-up, or what steps/path it needs to take. Would Visual Studio be a better way to go rather than Infopath? Thank you in advance for any help an advice, I'd really appreciate any guidance. Kind regards, Paul.

To use the built in InfoPath functionality that submits to SQL, you need to start with the database, then in InfoPath select the Database form template. However, is this intended to be a browser form? If so, you won't be able to submit directly to SQL, and you'll have to either write your own web service, use a third party web service (like DBXL, from the company I work for) or write code to submit to your database. So - is this a browser or a filler form? Is writing code an option for you?
