Modifying existing InfoPath Forms published to SharePoint Form Library, without altering or losing existing data.

Would the following actions affect the existing data in the SharePoint Form Library where my content type based two InfoPath Forms are published:

    1. Adding fields and controls to the existing InfoPath Form.

    2. Removing combo box controls (not removing the bound field).  However, field that is bound to this combo box control is a "required" field with a dropdown of numbers 1 to 5. Currently, the default for the dropdown is "Select..."

    3. Would my changing the default value to number “1” in the field and then removing the control there after from the form, affect the existing data?

    4. I have a calculated field titled "PtsFinal", in my SharePoint Form Library. Where, the formula is:

    =CONCATENATE(PtsratingFormExtended,PtsratingFormLimited)

If I change the formula to:

    =CONCATENATE(PtsratingFormExtended,PtsratingFormLimited,PtsratingFormMiddle),

(where PtsratingFormMiddle is a newly field in the SharePoint Form.)

Will the existing data be lost?

Adding fields and controls should be okay - do you want the old forms to open with the new template or not? You can always just publish your update as a new content type, and change the default content type on the library. You could change the field that is bound to the combo box to not be required - that shouldn't cause any issues with existing forms. If you change the calculation for a calculated column in a SharePoint list or library that will recalculate for all library items. I'd strongly recommend you set up a test library to check some of these things. Here's a blog post on previewing form changes with existing XML that may also help you. http://www.infopathdev.com/blogs/hilary/archive/2009/03/13/first-do-no-harm.aspx
